Celebrating World Franchise Day 11 June 2025
Today, on World Franchise Day, we celebrate the powerful and positive impact of franchising across New Zealand and around the globe.
At the heart of every franchise network are the franchisees
Franchisees are the enterprising, hardworking individuals who bring products and services to life in local communities every day. They build teams, support customers, and drive standards of quality and care. Their contribution is immense.
We also recognise and appreciate the role of franchisors. Franchisors are those who develop, lead, and invest in the systems that enable others to succeed. Great franchisors work tirelessly to provide the brand, strategy, systems, training, and support their franchisees rely on. Their leadership and stewardship underpin sustainable network performance and innovation.
Together, franchisors and franchisees form a unique and collaborative partnership that is central to the success of the franchise model.
Franchising reaches into almost every corner of New Zealand life. Franchise businesses span a wide range of industries – from accommodation providers, restaurants, cafés, and home builders, to finance companies, hairdressers, sporting goods retailers, home and lawn care services, gyms, education providers, real estate agencies, supermarkets, and convenience stores. These businesses meet every day needs, offer specialised services, and bring trusted brands closer to where Kiwis live, work, and play.
Franchising continues to be a powerful economic force in New Zealand.
According to the 2024 Survey of Franchising in New Zealand, the sector comprises:
- Over 540 franchise systems in New Zealand.
- More than 27,000 franchise units in New Zealand.
- A significant contributor to GDP, employment, and regional development.
Franchising provides nationwide access to competitive and quality goods and services, creates jobs and skills pathways, and supports entrepreneurial opportunity at scale.
On this day, we celebrate everyone who contributes to franchising – the franchisees on the front line, the franchisors building for the future, and the teams that make it all possible.

Here’s to the continued growth, innovation, and success of franchising in Aotearoa and around the world.
